The Board

Mr. Anthony G. Zahra

Mr. Zahra is founding Chairman of Fexserv and Alpine Group as well as Chairman of Malta Industrial Parks. He is a well-known and respected Maltese entrepreneur who has built a successful array of market-leading operations in various sectors. 

He has held various Government appointments including directorships at The Malta Development Corporation, Malta International Airport plc and Air Malta plc. He also held office of a number of constituted bodies including appointment as Senior Vice President of the Federation of Industries, Council Member of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Malta Hotel and Restaurants Association.

Dr. Karl Strobl

Former Global Head of Equity Trading, structured funds, and retirement solutions at Deutsche Bank’s Asset Management Division, a firm with EUR 0.6 trillion of client assets. Serving on various committees of local, Maltese financial institutions such as fund managers, banks, and the stock exchange. He also lectures at the University of Malta.

He also worked at a large global investment bank, and as a lecturer in theoretical particle physics. Karl, a native of Austria, holds a PhD in applied mathematics and theoretical physics from Cambridge University.

Nicholas Zahra, CFA

A portfolio manager and member of the investment committee for Bastion Wealth Ltd.  An expert in investment strategy, he also has substantial experience managing ventures in property, hotels and the leasing industry.

He has worked in the Alpine Group and Bastion Holdings for more than twenty years, and has been a board member since 2003 with the remit to advise the directors on macro economic themes and trends. Nicholas, a native of Malta, is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Lawrence Buttigieg, B.Acc(Hons)

Lawrence previously worked for PWC specialising in financial services, getting extensive experience in audits and consultancy appointments for funds, banks and other licensed entities, including a long term appointment within PWC’s Banking and Capital Markets division in New York City. He later joined Fexserv as a Group Financial Controller, whereby he progressed to build the fund services arm of the Group before being appointed as Group COO and subsequently CEO in 2012. He also sits on the committee of the Malta Funds Industry Association. He is a qualified accountant and holds an Honours degree in Accountancy and a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Malta.

Frank R. Suess

Frank is the Group CEO and Chairman of BFI Capital Group, as Swiss wealth management group. He also acts as the Chairman of the Swiss Registered Investment Advisors Association (SRIAA).  Prior to his heading up BFI, he held a senior management position with Price Waterhouse, working as a strategic and operational management consultant to a number of international corporations. Mr. Suess holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley and a Bachelor´s degree in Finance from Saint Mary´s College.

Aidan McLoughlin

Aidan set up Independent Trustee Company in 1993 with his brother Sean McLoughlin. The business addressed a gap in the market at that time for individualised pensions. Aidan went on to set up other related companies, namely Independent Trustee (ITL) and ITC Consulting, which together comprise the ITC Group.

Aidan is a graduate of University College Dublin and qualified as a solicitor and a tax consultant in 1987. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Taxation in Ireland (ITI) and a member of the Law Society of Ireland, the Society for Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Association of Pension Lawyers of Ireland (APLI) and is a Fellow of the Irish Institute of Pensions Management (FIIPM).

He was founding Chairman of the Association of Pensioneer Trustees of Ireland (APTI) and is currently deputy President of the Irish Brokers Association. He is editor of the Irish Broker magazine and of the Irish Tax Institute’s publication Pensions: Revenue Law and Practice, a comprehensive and essential industry textbook.

He has appeared before several Oireachtas Committees including Finance and Social Protection. He has also contributed to Capital Acquisitions Tax by Brian Bohan. He has tutored and delivered seminars to students and members of many industry bodies and has contributed articles on tax and legal matters to numerous publications.

Anabel Mifsud

Anabel started her career in audit and assurance with PWC where she was involved within different industries working from the Malta and London offices. She subsequently took up accountancy and finance positions with leading entities operating out of Malta including an appointment within the Finance Department of HSBC Securities Services (Malta) Limited. She was elected to represent the Malta Fund Industry Association on matters relating to AML and anti-terrorist funding to the Malta Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree, an Honours degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Financial Services from the University of Malta.

Brendan Conlon

Brendan has over 20 years’ experience in the areas of fund administration, custody & investment services experience, as well as a broad knowledge of the compliance and regulatory aspects of the industry. He was previously employed in the Irish fund industry by Daiwa Europe Bank and the Bank of Ireland Securities Services/State Street Alliance (now State Street Ireland) and was Managing Director of Fexco Global Investments for 10 years. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin and the Dublin Institute of Technology, Brendan is presently a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment in London, and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
